The French Resistance Came in All Shapes and Sizes

BEVERLY HILLS, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2013) -  Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company present the charming and popular French tale, WAR OF THE BUTTONS, on DVD on September 17, 2013. Based on Louis Pergaud's best-selling 1912 French novel, La Guerre des boutons, WAR OF THE BUTTONS is directed by Academy Award® nominee Christophe Barratier (the box-office hit The Chorus, Original Song). Described by Barratier as "a magnificent description of the passage from childhood to adolescence," WAR OF THE BUTTONS is available on DVD for an SRP of $24.98.

Produced and co-written by Academy Award® winner Thomas Langmann (The Artist, Best Picture), WAR OF THE BUTTONS features actor/filmmaker Guillaume Canet (Farewell, Love Me If You Dare), model/actress Laetitia Casta (Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, Arbitrage), Kad Merad (Welcome to the Sticks), newcomer Jean Texler and Ilona Bachelier.

Set in France during WWII, WAR OF THE BUTTONS tells the tale of two rival groups of kids from neighboring villages. Pre-teen rebel Lebrac (Jean Texier) leads a spirited group of kids in a pint-sized "war" where the victory comes from capturing the enemies' buttons, belts, and laces -- forcing them to return home ragged to face their mothers' reprimand. When Violette (Ilona Bachelier), a young Jewish girl, comes to town to hide from the Nazis, Lebrac befriends her and the children put their own conflicts aside to protect their new friend from the very real war happening around them. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Christophe Barratier (The Chorus, Original Song) and produced and co-written by Thomas Langmann (Academy Award® winner for The Artist, Best Picture).

"The film is truly a free adaptation of the novel, in the sense that I let my inspiration guide me towards areas that were foreign to the novel," said director Christophe Barratier. "The film transcribes first and foremost the feeling of freedom present in Pergaud's novel. The children are not only at war against each other, they are involved in trying to form their own republic. They make up their own rules, not only for fighting but also for living."

The WAR OF THE BUTTONS DVD special features include a "The Making of War of the Buttons" featurette, bloopers, and deleted scenes. Note: special features are subject to change.
