Andrea Linares Named News Anchor for Noticias GenTV

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - Feb 21, 2012) - GenTV (WGEN-TV CH8), an independent Spanish-language television station providing high-quality broadcasting and programming to Hispanic audiences in Florida, announced the addition of Emmy Award nominated journalist Andrea Linares to "Noticias GenTV" as news anchor for the weekday 9 p.m. ET/PT newscast.

Prior to joining GenTV, Linares was a correspondent with Mega TV covering the 5 p.m. news. Linares began her career as a reporter for WLTV Univision 23, where she contributed as a weather reporter for "Noticias 23 Al Amanecer" in Miami. During her journalistic career, Linares has had the opportunity to cover major events like the 2008 presidential election and interview high profile political figures and celebrities such as Olga Tañon, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Senator Marco Rubio, Lincoln Diaz Balart, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Her superior journalistic work has garnered her two Emmy Award nominations for the investigative reports "Rodando con la Muerte" (Rolling with Death), a two part investigative report on the dangers of selling aged tires as new and "Belleza Peligrosa" (Dangerous Beauty), a story focused on the dangers of the popular keratin hair treatments that contain formaldehyde, a key ingredient linked to cancer and serious respiratory problems.

Andrea graduated in 2008 with high honors from the University of Miami with a degree in Communications and a major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. While studying, Andrea completed an internship with the intelligence department at WTVJ NBC 6 doing consumer research reports. Later, she joined the WFOR CBS 4 research department where she assisted reporting on health.
