Andrew Lane Napa Valley Gamay Noir Takes Bronze in West Coast Wine Competition

NAPA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 2, 2006 -- West Coast Wine Competition results are in and Andrew Lane, makers of award-winning, limited production wines, scores bronze for its 2004 Gamay Noir. This incredibly fruit-forward, vibrant, anytime, anywhere wine, was entered in the "other Rhone varietals" category.

Available today at $19 MSRP, Andrew Lane 2004 Gamay has the mouth-feel and velvety texture of a Pinot Noir, but with a more vibrant, red fruit character. It offers a lively bouquet and flavor of fresh red cherries, red currents, with touches of strawberry and spice on the finish.

"Once abundant in Napa valley, Gamay Noir is a rare gem in American wine that is slowly making a resurgence among today's savvy and curious wine enthusiasts," said Andrew Dickson, owner/winemaker, Andrew Lane Wines. "To receive this award at the WCWC adds wind to our sails in our quest to bring American Gamay Noir to the masses."

The 2004 Gamay is produced from 50+ year-old vines, one of the last remaining Gamay vineyards in Napa Valley. Often described as a California Rhone, Gamay Noir a'Jus Blanc is closely related to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and is the primary black grape of France's Beaujolais region.

The 24th consecutive 2006 edition of the West Coast Wine Competition is held in Sonoma County each April. Participants include wineries from California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and New Mexico as well as in British Columbia, CAN, Australia, New Zealand and Western Mexico. Entry wines are selected from an experienced pool of wine-industry insiders with backgrounds in winemaking, wine education, and wine retailing.
