Andy Wei Joins Chipworks as Senior Technology Fellow

Mr. Wei's Extensive Experience Complements Chipworks' Strategic Leadership and Insights Into Advanced Semiconductor Technology and Business


OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - May 5, 2015) - Chipworks, the patent and technology partner to the world's most successful companies, today announced that Andy Wei, an expert on advanced CMOS (aCMOS) technology, has joined the firm as Senior Technology Fellow. In this role, Mr. Wei will identify, analyze, and forecast key trends in the aCMOS technology arena, provide strategy and support to Chipworks aCMOS clients and serve as a mentor for engineers throughout the company.

Prior to joining Chipworks, Mr. Wei worked with GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab8, in Malta, New York, and Fab1 in Dresden, Germany. As a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, he focused on process architecture, process integration, and design-technology co-optimization in the 28nm, 20nm, 14nm, 10nm, and 7nm technology nodes. Before that, he was a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Advanced Micro Devices working on process integration in Fab 36 and Fab 30 (Dresden, Germany), and Fab 25 (Austin, Texas). In this period, his work spanned the technology nodes from 180nm down to 32nm, having roles ranging from manufacturing, development, to process pathfinding.

A highly sought-after expert, Mr. Wei has authored numerous papers and articles for leading trade journals and presented at industry symposiums and events around the world. He has been recognized by his peers for his expertise and contributions to advanced semiconductor technology. In the past 15 years, Mr. Wei has received or has pending more than 230 patents.

Mr. Wei earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz. He completed both his master's degree and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.
