AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - Sept. 6, 2012) - AMSTERDAM IBC -
Anevia, a leader in video streaming solutions and service infrastructure for live TV and video on demand (VOD), announced today, that its ViaMotion multiscreen over-the-top (OTT) video streaming solution supports the Opera Devices SDK enabling HbbTV services through the Opera browser.
MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) is a new standard for adaptive bitrate streaming of video content over HTTP. HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is an industry standard adopted by several major European television broadcasters for combining digital television (DTV) with HTTP content for delivering services such as restart and catch-up TV to connected TVs. HbbTV 1.5 specifies the use of MPEG-DASH as a preferred streaming profile.
Anevia's ViaMotion server software packages live and on-demand video content to the MPEG-DASH profile for HbbTV services.
The Opera browser includes support for HbbTV 1.5, including MPEG-DASH OTT streams, for common use cases. By integrating the Opera browser into their products, manufacturers of connected TVs and set-top boxes are able to support ViaMotion's enriched HbbTV features including catch-up TV, pauseTV, and startover TV.
HbbTV is one of several use cases where Anevia and Opera are delivering interoperable solutions.
A live demonstration of MPEG-DASH, Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) using ViaMotion on the server-side and the Opera browser as a client will be shown at IBC on Opera's stand 5.B47.
