Angled Receptacle Isolators From Finisar Increase Reliability of Laser Transmitters in Optical Communication Systems

New Isolators Reduce Production and Manufacturing Complexity With Pre-Qualified Customizable Subassemblies

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - September 11, 2007) - Continuing to demonstrate its leadership and expertise in optical technology, Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) today introduced its new Angled Receptacle Isolators. These optical components increase the performance and reliability of laser transmitters used for optical communications. In addition, these isolators reduce the complexity and cost of optical communication systems. Demonstrations will be held in Finisar's booth #17048 at ECOC, September 17-19, 2007.

OEMs in the optical communications laser market, especially those producing their own receptacle-mounted lasers, require optical isolation to protect laser components from unwanted back-reflections. Finisar's Angled Receptacle Isolators provide an efficient, cost-effective means to accomplish this. The introduction of these isolators continues to widen Finisar's portfolio of optical components by providing all the key pieces needed to create robust optical systems as well as extending the range of options available to developers.

Finisar's Angled Receptacle Isolators offer an integral fiber-stub with optional 6° or 8° tilt angle and provide excellent return loss, superior isolation, and high reliability at a competitive price, all driven by internal high-volume manufacturing capabilities. A key benefit of Angled Receptacle Isolators is that it's being offered as a complete, qualified subassembly, comprised of the housing, fiber-stub, and angled isolator. The subassembly is customer-configurable, giving developers the option to define the receptacle mechanical outline and isolator tilt angle so that it can be seamlessly integrated into an OEM's existing modules. This results in substantially lower production complexity while minimizing transceiver size and reducing overall cost compared to implementing a free space optical isolator.

"Finisar is unique in the industry, with its extensive optical manufacturing experience, proven quality and reliability, and high-volume manufacturing capacity," said Dr. Jim Tatum, director of marketing for Advanced Optical Components at Finisar. "By providing a pre-qualified subassembly specifically engineered for our customer's transceiver modules, we eliminate an entire assembly process from their manufacturing operations."

The Angled Receptacle Isolator is now shipping in high-volume worldwide. For more information about these products, including application notes and supporting technical data visit www.finisar.com/aoc.php or call 1-866-MY-VCSEL.
