LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - May 16, 2017) - Animal advocacy groups are joining forces to denounce the cruel Chinese dog and cat meat trade -- including the gruesome Yulin Dog Meat Festival, which is scheduled for June 20, 2017 in Yulin, China -- at a demonstration outside the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles on May 19, 2017.

The Los Angeles rally is one of five occurring that day in protest of China's dog meat industry and in support of United States H.Res.30, Condemning the Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, China, and urging China to end the dog meat trade, introduced by Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL-20) on January 6, 2017. The other protests will occur at the Chinese Consulates of Washington D.C., San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.

"This major demonstration will solidify the nation's stance against the unthinkable cruelty that happens every year in Yulin, as well as the entire Chinese dog and cat meat trade," said LCA Founder Chris DeRose. "LCA's mission is to expose -- and put an end to -- the horrendous abuse."

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China is the scene of a massive slaughter where thousands of dogs are beaten, boiled and burned alive in a gruesome celebration of the summer solstice each year. LCA's undercover investigators in China documented the brutal event in 2015 and 2016, exposing the true horror. View LCA's investigative video here.

"With enough public pressure, we will be able to finally shut down the Yulin Dog Meat Festival," said LCA Campaigns Director Nina Jackel. "Many people in China want to see this despicable industry end as much as we do."

Last Chance for Animals (LCA) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating animal exploitation through education, investigations, legislation, and public awareness campaigns. Since its formation in 1984, LCA has succeeded as one of the nation's pioneer animal advocacy organizations. LCA's Sam Simon Special Investigations Unit documents abuse in research labs, puppy mills, factory farms, and the entertainment industry, and works with prosecutors to put animal abusers behind bars.
