Animal Clinic in Baton Rouge Announces Orthopedic Surgery

BATON ROUGE, LA--(Marketwire - Mar 1, 2012) - Jefferson Animal Hospital announced that the practice provides orthopedic surgery as part of its comprehensive animal emergency services and veterinary care. The practice has an orthopedic surgeon on staff that performs procedures including fracture repair, anterior cruciate ligament repair with the TPLO method and patella luxations. In addition to surgical procedures, the animal vet clinic also offers wellness care, vaccinations, spay/neuter operations, acupuncture and pet boarding.

Baton Rouge veterinarian Dr. Sam Hasse announced that the practice provide orthopedic surgery and has an orthopedic surgeon on-staff for pet urgent care and emergencies.

"As part of our commitment to providing high quality veterinary care service, our animal clinic is proud to provide orthopedic surgery to the Baton Rouge pet community," said Dr. Hasse. "Not all Louisiana veterinary hospitals have an on-staff surgeon. Being able to work closely with your regular veterinary health team truly makes a difference."

Orthopedic surgery can help pets who have sustained a traumatic injury, like being hit by a car. Some procedures can also help repair natural wear and tear to the soft tissues. The practice offers a variety of operations, including treating fractures, repairing anterior cruciate ligaments and correcting patella luxations, a dislocation of the kneecap.

"We recognize that any surgery can be a stressful experience for both pet owners and their pets," said veterinarian Dr. Frederic Michaelson. "It's natural to feel anxious and worry about a pet's health and safety during the procedure and recovery process. At our animal clinic, we do everything possible to ease these anxieties. We use state-of-the-art surgical equipment and carefully monitor your pet's vital signs during the operation. Immediately following an operation, we closely watch the pet for signs of complications and do not release pets until 12 to 24 hours have passed."

Following an operation, the animal care team sends pet owners home with clear instructions for follow-up care. "Should a pet owner have any questions about the recovery process or pain management, our veterinarians are available any time to address these concerns," said Dr. Hasse. "At Jefferson Animal Hospital, we don't treat pets like animals -- we treat them like family. This is one reason why pet owners choose our clinic for surgical operations and regular wellness care."

To help pets who are coping with pain following an injury or surgery, the practice also provides pet acupuncture. Veterinarian Dr. Larry McCaskill is a certified Eastern veterinary acupuncturist. He uses natural treatments along with herbal medicine to help pets enjoy pain relief when traditional methods, like anti-inflammatories, are ineffective.

In addition to orthopedic surgery and veterinary acupuncture, the animal hospital offers comprehensive veterinary care services. These include pet microchipping, vaccinations, wellness exams, spay/neuter procedures, and dental care. The veterinary staff is fully experienced with cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and ophthalmology.
