Ann Cathcart Chaplin From Fish & Richardson Named One of American Lawyer's "45 Under 45 Superstar Women in Law"

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - January 12, 2011) - Ann Cathcart Chaplin, managing principal of Fish & Richardson's Twin Cities' office, has been named to the "45 Under 45 Superstar Women in Law" list by The American Lawyer magazine. The recently published issue celebrates the success of 45 women lawyers under the age of 45 who have broken into the partnership ranks at Am Law 200 firms and have built stellar reputations in their practice areas.

Selected as one of "the best of the best among young women lawyers in the Am Law 200," the 37-year-old Cathcart Chaplin was also featured in the "Patently Successful" section of the magazine as a top intellectual property litigator. In the article, Cathcart Chaplin is described as a "tough-as-nails trial lawyer with a Lake Wobegon affability. On top of that, she is technically smart as any MIT engineer, so she presents a very formidable package."

To compile the "45 Under 45 Superstar Women in Law" list, The American Lawyer reviewed over 450 nominations and selected finalists who had "quantifiable achievements" and were on "an upward trajectory." Every finalist was screened by an American Lawyer reporter, who reviewed the attorneys' records and interviewed both clients and opposing counsel.

Cathcart Chaplin joined Fish & Richardson in 2001, was named a principal in 2005, and assumed the role of recruiting principal for the Twin Cities office in 2006. When she was named Twin Cities managing principal in 2010, she became the first woman to hold an office managing principal position in Fish's 132-year history. Cathcart Chaplin also has an active IP litigation practice, which includes patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights.

She received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1998 and her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota in 1995.
