Anna Ryder Richardson Visits Haven's Kiln Park to Launch New Caravan Makeover

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 25, 2011) - Anna Ryder Richardson, former star of the popular makeover programme 'Changing Rooms' and now the owner of Manor House Wildlife Park was at Haven Holidays' Kiln Park near Tenby this week to launch a new look for caravan styling.

Nowadays Anna is now more concerned with sustainability and eco-conscious tourism than interior design but she couldn't resist Haven's challenge to inject extra life and style into the holiday homes offered for sale at their six Welsh Parks.

Anna set about her caravan makeover with all her trademark gusto!

In keeping with her current focus on the environment she abandoned her usual taste in bold colours and geometric designs in favour of soft creams and greens, deep brown throws and white crockery – although she did add a few bright accent colours in the shower room!

Cushions, bed-linen, a full set of kitchen equipment and a few accessories such as candles, dried flowers and bowls of pot pourri and the caravan was 'madeover' into an instantly attractive 'home from home'.

Haven were delighted! They said, 'Our caravans come fully fitted with lounge and dining furniture, a well-equipped kitchen and built in beds. They are ready for new Owners to move into immediately but Anna's finishing touches have made all the difference.'

Anna, who was born in Wales but grew up in Surrey, has fond memories of caravanning holidays as a child. She said 'My parents used to hitch up a touring caravan to our camper van and we travelled all over the country. We had so much fun although looking back it's hard to say which area I loved best. But this sort of holiday has come on a long way since then and I hadn't realised just how spacious and comfortable static caravans have become – my children would love to take a Haven holiday and stay in one of these!'

The Manor House Wildlife Park is very close to Tenby and Kiln Park. Anna described buying it as a 'mid life crisis' to fulfil a childhood dream that started with a throwaway conversation in a pub when someone mentioned that the rundown zoo was up for sale. Since then she has been passionate about making the wildlife park as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible and is currently working hard to introduce white rhinos to her menagerie. The zoo boasts the country's biggest walk through lemur enclosure.

Both parties hope that the link between Haven Holidays and the Wildlife Park will go from strength to strength following the makeover.

Anna will be endorsing 'The Vision', the new eco-friendly caravan that Haven are launching later this month. The new caravan promises to be the industry's greenest ever holiday home saving at least 45% in gas and electricity costs with a whole raft of energy saving initiatives including insulation, double glazing, low energy lighting and water saving devices. It will be available for sale at all of Haven's 34 UK parks, including all the Welsh parks.

And Anna hopes that families staying at Kiln Park and Lydstep Beach will make a trip to the zoo whilst they're there. Anna said, 'Staying with Haven is a very 'green' way to holiday. They have loads of conservation awards and schemes like the Wildlife Detectives which introduces kids to the environment. We're hoping to form a partnership with Haven and take some of our smaller animals to their parks to introduce families to what we do at the zoo - which will be great for everyone – especially children who love getting up close and personal with unusual creatures.

Both their parks have a full time Ranger and at Lydstep they've taken this even further with all sorts of outdoor activities, guided walks, bushcraft skills. They're even planning to install a climbing wall to teach kids how to 'boulder' safely

So what's Anna's top tip for an eco-conscious holiday? 'Stay in the UK! And my personal suggestion would be come to Wales and visit my Wildlife Park!!! But seriously, if you take a holiday closer to home you minimise your carbon footprint and if you stay somewhere like Kiln Park there are loads of activities available without travelling any distance at all.

Wales has go so much to offer with beaches, mountains, coasteering, boat trips and water sports, gorgeous towns like Tenby, great places to eat, heritage ...and Wildlife Parks (!) why would you want to go anywhere else?'
