Announcing Pevsner's Architectural Glossary App

Look Up Architectural Terms Anywhere With Pevsner's Vocabulary in Your Pocket

NEW HAVEN, CT--(Marketwired - April 16, 2013) -  Yale University Press and Aimer Media are proud to announce the release of Pevsner's Architectural Glossary app.

Just in time for National Landscape Architecture Month and following the publication of the Pevsner Glossary of Architectural Terms, this stunning app offers users a dynamic and innovative way to engage with architecture and the Pevsner lexicon. It will serve as an invaluable reference for anyone interested in the architecture of the British Isles.

The app, for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, is priced at $4.99 and contains new features including expanded text, numerous additional color images and relevant building descriptions to support the definitions, clear line drawings and an audio pronunciation guide to the terms.

Publisher of the Pevsner Guide Series, Sally Salvesen said, "This vocabulary is absolutely central to Pevsner's famous survey of British architecture and the Glossary book has shown how keen people are to engage with it. We are excited to be taking this first step in digitizing Pevsner content, and we are already planning apps based on the Pevsner City Guides: Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bath, Bristol, Brighton and Hove, Newcastle and Gateshead and Hull. In the longer term Yale intends to digitize the entire series in a geolocation-based format, making it fully searchable across country boundaries."

FEATURES INCLUDE

• Definitions of more than a thousand architectural terms, both structural and stylistic

• Choice of search methods

• Clear explanatory line drawings

• Color images supporting definitions

• Map locations for individual buildings

• Linked cross references and bookmarks

• Audio pronunciation feature

PEVSNER'S ARCHITECTURAL GLOSSARY APP for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is available worldwide for $4.99 from iTunes App Store: appstore.com/PevsnersArchitecturalGlossary

PEVSNER GUIDES were begun in 1951 by the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902-83) with the aim of providing an up-to-date portable guide to the most significant buildings in every part of the United Kingdom. Pevsner Guides have been called "[a] superb series" by Choice and "The greatest endeavour of popular architectural scholarship in the world" by The Observer. Forthcoming 2013 titles include Nicholas Antram's Sussex: East with Brighton and Hove: The Buildings of Ireland by Kevin Mulligan.
