Announcing the 2015 CBC Calgary Suncor Food Bank Drive Results

CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - January 05, 2016) - At a time of ever-increasing need, generous Calgarians came together to donate a record $1,771,592 in food and funds towards the 2015 CBC Calgary Suncor Food Bank Drive.

Last year the one million dollar campaign goal was surpassed with a total of $1,339,436. "Each year, I am inspired by the incredible support and commitment our community members demonstrate for one another," said Cathy Glover, director of community investment at Suncor. "Thanks to the outpouring of generosity of Calgarians, we are able to support those in need during the holiday season and well beyond."

Since 1985 the CBC Calgary Suncor Food Bank Drive has raised more than $17.5 million for the Calgary Food Bank. Suzanne Waddell, manager communications, marketing & brand at CBC Calgary said, "We saw people who were able to give, give more. From the jar of peanut butter that an elderly gentleman dropped off, to kids donating their allowances, to large corporate cheques, to hours of volunteer service, Calgarians came together as a community to support others in whatever way they could. This is the true spirit of Calgary and of the people who live here. All of us at CBC Calgary are proud to call this city our home."

The 30th anniversary of this annual food drive comes when the need is greatest, and with the economic challenges playing a major role in the lives of many Calgarians, the support from the community has remained strong. "We are so grateful to CBC and Suncor for leading the charge to raise these important funds," says James McAra, CEO of the Calgary Food Bank. "We know the need will continue into the New Year and now we can ensure that we can provide individuals and families with quality emergency food during their times of crisis."
