Annual City-Wide Food Drive Supports the Calgary Food Bank

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2011) - The Annual City-Wide Food Drive is one of the largest and most successful food drives in the world, breaking a Guinness World Record in 2008(1) when over 7,000 volunteers collected 230,945kg (509,147lbs) of food. Over the past six years, the City-Wide Food Drive has collected over 2.2 million pounds of canned and dry goods for donation to the Calgary Food Bank.

In the days leading up to the Annual City-Wide Food Drive (set for September 24^th), more than 350,000 Calgary homes will be canvassed, inviting Calgarians to place food donations on their front porch for pick-up by one of the thousands of volunteers who will be on duty between 10:00 A.M. and 12:00 noon on September 24^th.

Feedback from last year tells us that many Calgarians didn't know we were coming! Help us get the word out in advance this year…

The Annual City-Wide Food Drive comes at a crucial time for the Food Bank, falling at the end of a traditionally slow donation period, and heading into the Food Bank's highest period of demand.

This annual has been so successful that organizers in Edmonton, Pincher Creek, and the province of British Columbia plan to launch their own city-wide (or province-wide!) campaigns, with the support of the Calgary coordinators. The City-Wide Food Drive is organized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but volunteers and donations come from all Calgarians.
