Annual Course Explores New Developments in Clinical Pacing, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators and Heart Failure Devices

WESTBOROUGH, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 27, 2005 -- David L Hayes, M.D., professor, Mayo Medical School and chair of Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, will direct a course designed for cardiac nurses and technicians, commonly referred to as allied professionals. The course, organized by Futura Media Services, is set for September 23-25, 2005 at the Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport in Minneapolis.

In its ninth year, the program provides nurses and cardiac technicians an update on cardiac pacing and implantable cardioverter defibrillator therapy. The course analyzes new developments in pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) for congestive heart failure. The program is approved by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and is endorsed by the Hearth Rhythm Society.

The course is presented in diverse formats including lectures, workshops, patient demonstrations and other interactive formats by a staff of ten medical professionals. Educational displays offer opportunities for "hands-on" use of programming equipment from various device manufactures. The course will cover:

-- Interpretation of paced electrocardiograms through lectures, case
    studies and workshops
-- A comprehensive follow-up of the patient with a permanent pacemaker,
    ICDs and CRT devices
-- The potential effect of environmental electrical interference (EMI) on
    implantable devices
