ANT Wireless Announces ANT+ FE-C Device Profile Support in New Smart Bike Trainers from CycleOps

Fitness Equipment Control Device Profile Gives Users a Wide Variety of Options for a Richer, More Immersive Indoor Training Experience

COCHRANE, AB--(Marketwired - September 21, 2016) - ANT Wireless, innovator in ultra-low power (ULP) wireless technology, today announced ANT+ support in CycleOps's Hammer (wheel-off) and Magnus (wheel-on) smart bike trainers making them compatible with ANT+ enabled bike computers, virtual training apps and simulator software. By utilizing the ANT+ FE-C (Fitness Equipment Control) device profile, the trainers can offer cyclists a wide variety of simulation and control options with interoperable software and devices, for a richer, more immersive indoor training experience.

"With these new trainers, our goal is to deliver a good workout that is a heck of a lot of fun to ride. We want cyclists to be able to work out how they want, with the technology they want, when they want with these new trainers. By integrating dual ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth 4.0 technologies and optimizing the overall riding experience with faster-than-ever electromagnetic resistance, we can make this possible," said Eric Albers, CycleOpS Product Manager.

FE-C integrated bike trainers such as the Hammer -- a wheel-off trainer that uses the bike's drivetrain to directly turn its flywheel for a more dynamic, realistic feel -- or the Magnus -- a cost-effective wheel-on trainer that clinches a bike's rear axle, allowing the rear wheel to turn the spindle for resistance -- can provide some of the most immersive indoor training experiences available.

The ANT+ FE-C Device Profile works by enabling two-way communication between smart fitness equipment and displays. This allows users to receive workout data while controlling or simulating workouts in real time via smart displays like bike computers, smart devices or simulation software.

"The ANT+ FE-C device profile is the only interoperable wireless standard for bike trainers on the market and has been widely adopted by every major trainer manufacturer," said Mike Rounding, product manager for ANT+. "We have a long history of working with companies, like CycleOps, to develop innovative ANT+ solutions for dynamic and interoperable products. The Hammer and Magnus trainers use that interoperability to create the best possible training experience for cyclists."

About ANT / ANT+ (www.thisisant.com):

ANT is an established protocol and silicon solution for ultra-low power (ULP) practical wireless networking applications. With millions of deployed nodes, ANT is perfectly suited for any kind of low data rate sensor network topologies; from peer- to-peer or star, to practical mesh; in personal area networks (PAN) which are well suited for sports, fitness, wellness and home health applications, or in local area networks (LAN) in home and IoT applications.

ANT+ (built on the base ANT protocol), is an interoperability infrastructure that defines device profiles which specify data formats, channel parameters and network keys This provides seamless wireless connectivity between ANT+ enabled products, including the collection and automatic transfer of sensor data.

Popular in sport, wellness management and home health monitoring, ANT+ is the pervasive ULP wireless technology facilitating the capture of critical market share in the exploding mobile sensor sector. This standardized communication platform enables quick-to-market solutions for application developers, sensor manufacturers, and cell phone makers.

ANT+ has amassed an ecosystem of world-class technology vendors in the ANT+ Alliance, an open special interest group of companies who have adopted the ANT+ promise of interoperability. With over 250 million devices in the market, these industry leaders offer readily-available brand name products for sport, wellness management and home health monitoring.
