Anthem Worldwide Helps Big Brands Engage Silicon Valley-Level Innovation

Kraft Foods and The Home Depot Engage Mobile Technology Developers at "Big Brand Hackathon"

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 14, 2012) - Anthem Worldwide, the brand development division of Schawk, Inc. (NYSE: SGK), whose integrated global network provides innovative solutions to articulate, unify and manage brand impact to create compelling and consistent brand experiences, will help big brands engage Silicon Valley-level innovation during the two-day Big Brand Hackathon on June 16 and 17 in San Francisco.

Powerhouse brands Kraft Foods and The Home Depot are the platinum sponsors of the first-ever event, which will challenge the community of mobile application developers to create imaginative technology-based solutions that these brands can bring to market to engage and excite their customers.

According to Mark Silva, senior vice president of emerging platforms at Anthem Worldwide, "We created an event that enables big brands to move at the speed and power of Silicon Valley to transform marketing concepts into code and ideas into apps. The Big Brand Hackathon is a unique opportunity for Kraft Foods and The Home Depot to engage some of the most innovative and creative minds in technology on the challenges of marketing brands today."

Eric Ashworth, chief strategy officer at Anthem Worldwide, commented, "A recent IBM study of global chief marketing officers recommended that marketers focus on the opportunity to create value for customers as individuals, not markets. The Big Brand Hackathon is a powerful way to address that recommendation."

The Big Brand Hackathon is open to individuals and teams of developers and start-up app development companies. They will compete for $25,000 in cash prizes and more than $20,000 in prizes. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place apps for both Kraft Foods and The Home Depot.

Developers will focus on using social and location-based features in their final apps and 20 finalists selected over the two-day Hackathon will have a chance to showcase their apps to attendees at the Social-Loco conference on June 18 in San Francisco.

The Big Brand Hackathon, an idea originated by Anthem Worldwide, who also provided the strategic and creative vision defining the event, is being produced by Mobile {Dev}Sync in conjunction with Converge Labs, producers of Social-Loco, the premier conference for social, location and mobile technology. Qualcomm is the Platinum technology sponsor. Other sponsors include: Gold - Nokia Developer, Silver - YP, Telenav, and partners Social-Loco, AnthemWW, BlueRun Ventures, and Mobile {Dev}Sync. The event will take place at Madrone Studios in San Francisco and will be filmed by Bravo TV as part of an upcoming reality show based on Silicon Valley.
