Antioxidant of Bamboo Self-Affirmed GRAS Status

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Oct 6, 2015) - An independent panel of expert toxicologists and medical experts has affirmed BamDion Bio-Tech's AOB (Antioxidant of Bamboo), a patented extract from bamboo leaves as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). In partnership with Heuer M.D. Research, a comprehensive evaluation of research and toxicology studies, the expert panel concluded that AOB is safe for use as a processing aid and as an antioxidant in foods such as potato crisps, French fries, baked foods, candy and coffee. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers an ingredient to be GRAS when the substance is generally recognized, among qualified experts, as having been adequately shown to be safe under the conditions of its intended use.

AOB, is a patented extract of bamboo leaves, manufactured by BamDion Bio-Tech. AOB has been shown to reduce acrylamide, a known animal carcinogen, neurotoxicant, animal reproductive and developmental toxicant. Because of this, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified acrylamide as "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen." Acrylamide is formed as a result of a heat-induced reaction between two naturally occurring ingredients found in conventional foods, such as coffee, potato chips, baked goods and others. AOB has been shown to reduce acrylamide up to 90% in certain applications.

In additional areas of research, AOB is also an effective antioxidant and has been shown to significantly lower blood lipids in both animal and early human studies (Zhang et al. 2008). AOB in preliminary studies has also shown to reduce weight when used with proper diet and exercise (Zhang et al. 2004, 2007). AOB has also shown effects on lean muscle and increased mitochondrial formation in several animal models which translates to possible significant use in human sports activities and in sarcopenia -- muscle loss with aging (Zhang et al. 2005).

"We are very excited on the promise of reduced acrylamide on our food supply," commented Dr Zhang, BamDion Bio-Tech's chief scientist. "This could be a game changer."

BamDion Bio-Tech Co., Ltd, (Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China) has developed AOB (Antioxidant of Bamboo) in conjunction with School of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, Zhejiang University (Hangzhou 310058, China).

AOB will be unveiled at the Supply Side West in Las Vegas on October, 2015.
