Apache Lucene/Solr Meetups Draw Record Numbers of Developers Seeking Scalable Alternatives to Proprietary Search

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2010) -

WHAT:

Washington D.C. area developers creating innovative open source enterprise search solutions are invited to meet Wednesday, November 17, at the Lucene/Solr Meetup, co-sponsored by Lucid Imagination and Rivet Logic. The Meetup is one of an ongoing series of nation-wide Meetup events, reflecting the pent-up demand for Solr/Lucene know-how. Speakers experienced in building and deploying leading edge Solr/Lucene-based search applications, for organizations as diverse as Comcast and the Federal Government, will share their insights and best practices during the event, followed by a round of Lightning Talks from community members. The line-up of D.C. presentations will feature leading experts in the field, including:

  • "Solr in the Enterprise": Erik Hatcher, co-founder, Lucid Imagination; member, Apache Lucene PMC; co-author, Lucene in Action
  • "Searching CMS": Sumer Jabri, Architect, Rivet Logic
  • "search.usa.gov": Erik Arnold, Adhere Solutions
  • "Search Architecture, Comcast": Lokesh Kumar and Sakshi Bajaj, Comcast Search Development team

WHY:

Adoption of Solr/Lucene for enterprise search applications is exploding, reflected by the rapid increase of user groups, Meetups, and company adoption of Solr/Lucene. The Lucene Revolution conference in Boston in early October was sold out, attracting hundreds of search technologists and thought leaders to collaborate and discuss working with Solr/Lucene open source search technology.

The Solr/Lucene Meetups provide the knowledge developers and technologists need to leverage Solr/Lucene to break the financial and technical handcuffs of commercial proprietary software to create better, faster, and more scalable search. Forward thinkers from companies big and small are using Solr/Lucene in production-class enterprise search implementations related to new media, e-commerce, embedded search applications, content management, social media, and security and intelligence. Organizations as diverse as Boeing, EMC, Amazon.com, NIH, Lockheed Martin, Qualcomm, Time Inc., Comcast, Twitter, LinkedIn, eHarmony, General Electric, Verizon, Motorola, General Dynamics, SAIC, Careerbuilder.com, and many more use Solr/Lucene search applications integrated with business intelligence, content management, Hadoop, big data, and the cloud.
