August 01, 2012 14:04 ET Gives Back to Aid Residents of El Reno, Oklahoma With Their Housing Needs

Sponsors Mission El Reno, a Weeklong Event Drawing Youths Across Oklahoma Conducting Local Community Service

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Aug 1, 2012) - supported teens across Oklahoma who gathered at Mission El Reno, July 22-27, to work in the local community and assist numerous service organizations to aid in the housing needs of residents. Hosted by First Christian Church in El Reno, the weeklong event also drew community residents, local churches and corporate sponsors to provide hospitality, conduct work projects and entertain the participating youths during their stay. Cougar Crossing Apartment Community housed the youth groups.

Youth from several Oklahoma towns including Duncan, Enid, Fairview, Stillwater, Oklahoma City, Norman, Guthrie, Midwest City, Cushing, Chandler, Perry, Claremore and El Reno participated with area churches. Projects included painting and home repairs, yard work, tree limb removal, Mobile Meals delivery, collecting can goods for the food bank, and more.

Tara Dew, Director of Youth First Christian Church, says, "We have many residents struggling to upkeep or repair on their homes and have a warm meal -- and we want to give back to El Reno. We also have many social service organizations that are trying to fill needs for this community with limited funding. The congregation of First Christian Church has a big heart for our community and a desire to give back right here at home. So we hosted Mission El Reno to help these community members with maintaining their home."

Teens gathered every morning and evening after community service for worship that included praise music from Chase Callahan Band from Greenville, South Carolina as well as a spiritual message from Brandon Gilvin, Associate Director, Week of Compassion. Activities included a pool party, ghost tour, dance at the Express Barn, movies at the Centre Theater and a drive-in. Also one day was dedicated to team building with sessions on work site safety, arts/crafts, bowling, first aid training, dance, and theater.

Marcia Bollinger, President of Apartment Finder, adds, "We are so touched by the outpouring of support in El Reno, my hometown, to many local citizens needing assistance. helps millions of people find an apartment home every day and we were happy to be able to give back with our time and donations to a cause where Oklahoma youth completed projects around people's homes."
