APC Smart-UPS Protect Editing & IT Servers During NBC's Coverage of the Vancouver Winter Games, February 12-28, 2010

WEST KINGSTON, RI--(Marketwire - February 26, 2010) - APC by Schneider Electric, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, has provided Smart-UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) power protection units to NBC during the network's coverage of the XXI Olympic Winter Games from Vancouver, February 12-28. The announcement was made today by Chip Adams, Vice President, Venue Engineering, NBC Olympics and Robert McKernan, President, Americas, APC.

APC has provided several Smart-UPS RT 8000VA units to supply high performance power protection to guard against power interruptions to the editing and communications equipment for NBC's coverage of the Vancouver Winter Games. APC Smart-UPS RT 8000VA units are flexible and easy to install in a wide range of environments and can be managed remotely.

"We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide our legendary uninterruptible power supply technology to NBC," said Robert McKernan. "Our Smart-UPS units are known for their reliable power protection and are an ideal solution for high performance equipment under constant use, as well as flexible networks with a variety of voice and data technologies."

"Should we have a technical power failure during our coverage of the Games, the APC Smart-UPS will ensure we have both the ability to save our content assets as well as ensure we can communicate with our various other divisions. Having this ability will enable us to either safely store our content assets or move them to another location so that we can meet on-air timelines. Safe and stable power is the lifeblood of any broadcast and we are thrilled to have APC as a partner supporting this mission critical aspect of our coverage for the Vancouver Winter Games," said Chip Adams.

The Smart-UPS RT 8000VA units provide voltage and frequency regulation, internal bypass, and input power factor correction. The units are made to handle multiple applications and provide standardization across various environments, providing additional power to business-critical systems under high demand.

The flexible nature of the stand-alone Smart-UPS units makes them ideal for handling input from various locations. The units are built to manage applications requiring more than two hours runtime, and are equipped with the ability to add unlimited hot-swappable battery packs, with high efficiency inverter design. Features such as a wide input voltage range (-23% +25% at full load and -52% +25% at half load), intelligent precision charging, and UPS battery management help ensure maximum battery life.
