Aperio Signs Major Distribution Agreement With Nikon Instruments Europe

Company Expands Presence in European Market as Nikon Distributes Award-Winning ScanScope® Slide Scanning Systems to Clinical Markets

VISTA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 23, 2007 -- Aperio Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of digital pathology systems and services to the healthcare and life sciences industry, announced today an agreement with Nikon Instruments as the official European distributor of its digital pathology products. The agreement strengthens Aperio's presence in the European market in support of global growth initiatives and broadens Nikon's product offering in digital pathology.

Nikon Instruments Europe will distribute the full line of Aperio's award-winning ScanScope slide scanning systems and Spectrum™ digital pathology information management software to the clinical market, including hospitals and academic medical centers, within Europe. Aperio will continue to serve the biopharma market in Europe directly. "Nikon's extensive distribution channel will be of great value to Aperio and key to our success in growing our clinical customer base in Europe," stated Dirk Soenksen, CEO of Aperio. "This agreement represents another step in Aperio's strategy to build world-class sales and marketing reach. We are pleased to participate in Nikon's large and experienced sales network and to offer the proven benefits of Aperio's digital pathology solutions to their customers."

Aperio's digital pathology systems are based on the company's patented linear array-based ScanScope slide scanners, which create seamless, true color whole slide images from an entire glass slide in a matter of minutes. Aperio's slide scanning systems include the ScanScope GL-E configured for education, the ScanScope GL-T configured for telepathology, as well as the 5-slide ScanScope CS and the 120-slide high throughput ScanScope XT. Aperio's slide scanning systems are offered with Spectrum software to enable the secure viewing, analysis and management of digital slides and other images in multi-user, multi-site environments. Nikon will also resell Aperio TMALab software and Aperio's suite of image analysis algorithms.

"By offering Aperio's ScanScope systems and Spectrum software alongside Nikon's microscopes and digital cameras, we are able to offer a full line of digital pathology solutions," said Peter Drent, Deputy General Manager at Nikon Instruments Europe. "Aperio is the first company to recognize that slide digitization addresses only part of pathologists' needs. Through their development of information management software, including advanced image analysis techniques, Aperio provides the most comprehensive digital pathology solution available today."
