Apigee Add-on for Heroku Lets Ruby Developers Scale Twitter Applications Easily

Now Free in General Availability

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - November 8, 2010) -  Apigee, the leading provider of API products and services, today announced that its Twitter add-on for the Heroku platform is now generally available to all Heroku users. Free and easy to set up with only one line of code, the Apigee add-on provides Twitter developers with improved Twitter API rate limits when using OAuth authentication.

Heroku, the leading cloud application platform for Ruby, lets developers easily build and deploy apps. Combined with the Apigee add-on, Twitter developers are now able to gracefully scale their Twitter applications and avoid hitting rate limits that compromise their availability.

"The powerful combination of Apigee's add-on and the Heroku platform allows Twitter API developers to focus on writing great apps without worrying about scalability and rate limits," said Chet Kapoor, CEO, Apigee. "Ruby developers using the Twitter API can now deploy their apps effortlessly with Heroku while ensuring better service to users."

"Apigee solves a major problem faced by Twitter developers: scaling up without running into API rate limits," said Oren Teich, vice president, Heroku. "Twitter is one of the most popular APIs used on our platform and the general availability of the Apigee add-on ensures that these developers can focus on what counts: building better apps."

The Apigee add-on for Heroku is built off Apigee's industrial-strength API infrastructure for enterprises and developers. Apigee will soon be expanding its Heroku add-on features so Ruby developers can get access to other Apigee developer tools within the Heroku environment, including API analytics and debugging, ability to view API requests and responses and understand usage.
