Apogee Partner University of Texas at Arlington Featured in Campus Technology Magazine

School Officials Recommend Best Practices After Successfully Outsourcing the Student Network

AUSTIN, TX and ARLINGTON, TX--(Marketwire - Aug 29, 2012) - Apogee, the nation's largest provider of managed residential network (ResNet) services to higher education, today announced that recent partner school, the University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington), was featured this month in Campus Technology Magazine.

The article, co-authored by Eric Leidlein, UT Arlington's Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, and Greg Hladik, Assistant Director of University Housing, describes the process of outsourcing management of the student network to Apogee. Titled "10 Do's and Don'ts of Outsourcing the ResNet," the article draws on UT Arlington's successful transition to managed service, shares best practices and tips for keeping students happy.

"Outsourcing the ResNet and support services allowed us to take advantage of the provider's expertise to meet the increasingly complex needs of our student communities -- but that doesn't mean we're hands-off," say Leidlein and Hladik. "Our communications expert continues to monitor service levels by reviewing biweekly field reports [and] follows up with the vendor. The result is ongoing student satisfaction with network service and support, and a provider that meets or exceeds contractual obligations."

The authors also note that outsourcing the ResNet enabled the school to refresh network infrastructure, improve ResNet performance during peak hours and provide students with comprehensive 24-hour support for computers and mobile devices.

"We applaud the University for making the decision to overhaul network management," said Chuck Brady, Apogee CEO. "UT Arlington recognized the critical role of technology in supporting the school's continued success. By working with the Apogee team to oversee network service and support for residents, IT leaders are able to focus on the needs of the entire institution and plan for future growth."
