Appleby College Students Kick-Off the School Year With Next Generation Tablet by Fujitsu

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2010) - Committed to integrating the most advanced technology into all facets of teaching and learning, Appleby College is pleased to introduce the Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T4410 Tablet to its laptop program for students and staff.

A recognized leader in using Tablet PCs, Appleby College was the first e-school in Canada to introduce a 1:1 laptop program as part of its curriculum more than 11 years ago.

"Technology in school means more than accessing the Internet," said Kevin Pashuk, Chief Information Officer, Appleby College. "A student's computer is a critical tool that extends his or her opportunities and capabilities to learn, to communicate, to research, and to connect – all important competencies for the 21st century."

Great care was taken in choosing the new technology which is being rolled out to all 750 Appleby students. An extensive review process was undertaken, involving parents, students, faculty and staff, to ensure that the chosen computer platform meets Appleby's needs for the next two years. Serviceability, compatibility, performance factors and overall value were each taken into consideration.

Weighing in at less than two kilograms, the Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T4410 Tablet is ideally suited for Appleby's active students. The pen stylus with active digitizer technology provides digital inking capabilities – students can mark-up digital documents directly, conduct interactive presentations, draw diagrams and equations as well as take handwritten notes, enabling a more personalized, efficient computing experience while also increasing productivity. Furthermore, the capacitive multi-touch screen enables direct onscreen manipulations through the use of gestures.

"We believe learning will be transformed into an even more enriched academic environment filled with passion for creativity and knowledge sharing," said Mary Pereyma, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Mobile Products, Fujitsu Canada. "In the 21st century classroom, Tablet PCs allow students and educators to work without boundaries."
