Applied DNA Sciences Expands DNA-Marking of Prestige Cars Through Swedish Distributor

Sweden Making Their Vehicles Harder Targets for Criminals

STONY BROOK, NY--(Marketwired - May 17, 2016) - Applied DNA Sciences (NASDAQ: APDN) (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based supply-chain, anti-counterfeiting and anti-theft technology, product genotyping and product authentication solutions, announced today that will expand its SigNature DNA business via Safesolution, its Swedish Distributor, to select automobile importers in Sweden to make these vehicles a harder target for thieves.

The two-year contract for protecting a minimum of 2,000 vehicles per month was awarded to Safesolution following extensive testing over a two-year period. Using the APDN product known in Sweden as 'Smart DNA,' Safesolution has a proven track record of reducing car theft by over 80%.

The program involves marking high-value components of new luxury cars as they enter Sweden with 'Smart DNA.' This enables Police to trace stolen vehicles and components back to the original owner as each vehicle is marked with a unique forensic DNA code. The program is designed to keep insurance costs low for car owners and to help keep their cars safe from criminals.

Leif Svensson, Founder and Managing Director of Safesolution AB who has been a Distributor for Applied DNA for the last 5 years, commented on the two-year contract, saying "We are very pleased that the automotive industry is choosing our solution. Consumer satisfaction is one of their key driving forces and they take very seriously the issue of car theft and this contract demonstrates their commitment towards their clients."

SigNature DNA has been used in Europe since 2008 to help deter crime and to convict criminals which in itself is a great deterrent. To date the authentication of SigNature® DNA has been used in the convictions of over 100 criminals, leading to prison sentences of 490 years with many more cases still going through the judicial process.

The automotive DNA-marking program followed after endorsements by Swedish police and the Scandinavian insurance giant, IF.
