Applied Minerals, Inc. to Participate in National Concrete Association's 2014 ICON-Xchange

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 3, 2014) - Applied Minerals, Inc. (the "Company", "Applied Minerals") (OTCQB: AMNL) (OTCBB: AMNL), a leading global producer of halloysite clay and high-grade natural iron oxide, today announced its participation in the National Concrete Association's 2014 ICON-Xchange event to be held February 6-10, 2014 in Palm Springs, CA. The Company's management team and product specialists will discuss its AMIRON™ advanced natural iron oxides products. These products are specifically designed and ideally suited for use in construction, which is the largest end user market of iron oxide, and concrete applications.

"We are excited to participate in the 2014 ICON-Xchange, which provides the opportunity to interact with what is estimated to be over 500 producers, distributors, suppliers and industry leaders from the concrete masonry and hardscape industry," said Rogerio Galante, Head of Applied Minerals' Iron Oxide Business Unit. "Reflecting our global sales and marketing strategies, we look forward to networking with event attendees who conduct business across North America and throughout the world."

According to its organizers, an integral component of the event will be the ICON-Xchange Marketplace, which marks a shift from the traditional trade show format to a business-to-business meeting format that will include a more intimate expo setting for industry constituents. There also will be a B2B Exchange offering more one-on-one time with specific vendors and producers and a more efficient method of connecting with relevant business customers and trade partners.

AMIRON pigments are manufactured for use in construction for coloring ready-mix concrete, grout, stone veneer, roofing, and asphalt. Vertically integrated from mine to market, Applied Minerals' Dragon Mine property, located in Utah (USA), contains one of the purest in-situ resources of iron oxide in the world. The resource has been independently measured to contain over 3 million tons of iron oxide hydroxide in the form of limonite, goethite and hematite, grading 95% on average and can be selectively mined for a wide range of end uses. Chemically, the iron oxide resource is uncharacteristically low in trace metal impurities, enabling its use in market applications that have been traditionally served by synthetically produced iron oxides.

About Applied Minerals

Applied Minerals is the leading producer of halloysite clay and advanced natural iron oxide solutions from its wholly-owned Dragon Mine property in Utah. Halloysite is aluminosilicate clay that forms naturally occurring nanotubes. In addition to serving the traditional halloysite markets for use in technical ceramics and catalytic applications, the Company has developed niche applications that benefit from the tubular morphology of its halloysite. These applications include carriers of active ingredients in paints, coatings and building materials, environmental remediation, agricultural applications and high-performance additives & fillers for plastic composites. Applied Minerals markets its halloysite products under the Dragonite™ trade name.

The Dragon Mine also contains an advanced natural iron oxide resource consisting of Goethite and Hematite. Combining ultra-high purity and consistent quality, the inherent properties of iron oxide from the Dragon Mine allow for a wide range of end uses in pigment and technical applications. Applied Minerals markets its comprehensive line of advanced natural iron oxide pigments under the AMIRON™ trade name.
