Appointment of Part-Time Member of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 7, 2007) - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Western Economic Diversification, today announced the appointment of Kathleen Carol Fox as a part-time Member of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) for a term of four years, effective July 2, 2007.

Ms. Fox is retiring shortly from her position of Vice-President (Operations) at NAV Canada. An Airline Transport Rated Pilot with 4,000 flying hours, she has a thorough knowledge and understanding of aviation issues. She held positions of increasing responsibility in the air transportation sector within Transport Canada and NAV Canada. She knows the intricacies of conducting investigations of safety incidents. Among her other accomplishments, Ms. Fox has been a Team Leader and Competitor for the Canadian Precision Flying Team and has participated in world championships between 1996 and 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from McGill University prior to entering the Public service and in 1986 a Master of Business Administration degree also from McGill University.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is an independent agency, separate from other government agencies and departments, created in 1990 and consisting of up to five Board members, including a chairperson. It reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. Its mandate is to advance transportation safety through the investigation of occurrences in the marine, pipeline, rail and air modes of transportation. The Board works to identify safety deficiencies and to make recommendations designed to eliminate or reduce those safety deficiencies.
