Appointment to Canadian Race Relations Foundation Board of Directors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 3, 2008) - The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Claudia Patricia Caceres, of Quebec City, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

"Ms. Caceres' background and her involvement in human rights issues in Colombia will bring a unique perspective to the deliberations of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation Board," said Minister Verner.

Ms. Caceres has more than 15 years of experience in the fields of public administration and law. She served as national director for human rights for the Colombian Ministry of the Interior, human rights counsel for the Colombian Minister of National Defence, and chief of legal information for the Colombian Ministry of Justice. She has also held various senior positions in the Colombian Government. From 2004 to 2007, she was an ecclesiastical lawyer for the Diocese of Quebec City.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation undertakes research, collects data, and maintains a national information database to further understanding of the nature of racism and racial discrimination. It provides a knowledge base from which governments, academia, business, labour, and community organizations can draw to develop effective race relations policies and practices.
