Appointment to the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 25, 2008) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of
Mr. Sébastien Dhavernas as part-time Chairperson of the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal (CAPPRT), for a five-year term.

"Mr. Dhavernas has built a reputation in the arts community as a distinguished actor, stage director, producer and writer," said Minister Blackburn. "The Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal will value his knowledge and experience."

Mr. Dhavernas has worked in film, television and theatre for more than 30 years. In the film and television industry, he worked as an actor, studio director and voice actor. He also has experience in writing dialogue adaptation for feature films and television series. In the theatre community, Mr. Dhavernas worked as a stage director, artistic director, teacher, and producer.

Mr. Dhavernas holds a bachelor's degree from Stanislas College and a diploma in TV screenwriting from the Institut national de l'image et du son. He also attended the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal and the Institut de recherche Pantonal Inc. He served on numerous negotiating committees and as President of the Commission du doublage of the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles from 1999 to 2002. He has been a council member of the Union des Artistes since 2007.

The CAPPRT is an independent quasi-judicial tribunal created in 1995 under the Status of the Artist Act. The mandate of the tribunal is to contribute to Canada's cultural community by encouraging constructive professional relations between artists, as independent entrepreneurs, and producers in the federal jurisdiction.
