Appointment to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board


GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 9, 2011) - William Forrestall has been appointed as a member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board for a three-year term. This was announced today by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Forrestall," said Minister Moore. "As an educator and a nationally recognized artist, his knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the work of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board."

Mr. Forrestall holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University. He has pursued a successful artistic career with solo and group exhibitions across Canada and internationally. Currently a teacher in fine arts at St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, Mr. Forrestall has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the 1994 Brucebo Traveling Fellowship, which allowed for an extended study tour through European art galleries.

Mr. Forrestall is actively involved in his community and has been associated with a number of committees and professional organizations, including the CARFAC (Canadian Artists' Representation) Maritimes Board of Directors, the Gallery Connexion Board of Directors, and the City of Fredericton Heritage Review Committee. In addition, Mr. Forrestall was elected as a school board member for the District 18 Education Council.

The mandate of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board is to make determinations regarding the outstanding significance and national importance of cultural assets under the Cultural Property Export and Import Act. It is also responsible for determining the fair market value of items donated to Canadian organizations such as libraries, archives, and museums. In addition, the Board reviews appeals of applications for cultural property export permits that have been denied.
