Appointment to the Laurentian Pilotage Authority

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today announced the appointment of Mr. Peter Henrico, of Beaconsfield, Quebec, as chair of the board of directors of the Laurentian Pilotage Authority for a period of three years.

"I am pleased that Mr. Henrico has agreed to serve in this leadership capacity," said Baird. "His senior-level experience in the shipping industry will be an asset to the Laurentian Pilotage Authority."

Mr. Henrico holds a bachelor of commerce degree in economics from Concordia University. He recently retired as president and chief executive officer of Oceanex Inc., a shipping company based in Montreal. He previously held senior positions with CP Ships Group, Port of Montreal, and Clarke Transportation. Mr. Henrico is a former director of the Canadian Shipowners Association and former chairman of the finance committee of the Maritime Employers Association.

"Mr. Henrico's experience in the marine transportation industry will be of great benefit to the Authority as he assumes his new role," said the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State (Transport). "His background in the region brings added insight into pilotage operations that are particular to this area."

The Laurentian Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972 under the Pilotage Act. It is responsible for operating and maintaining a safe, efficient and economical pilotage service on the St. Lawrence River between Les Escoumins and the St. Lambert Lock, on the Saguenay River, and in Chaleur Bay.
