Appointment to the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today announced the appointment of Mr. Richard Hall to the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada (TATC).

"I am delighted that Mr. Hall has agreed to lead the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada," said Baird. "He possesses a variety of talents and wealth of experience that will be tremendous assets to the tribunal."

A native of Quebec, Mr. Hall earned a bachelor of laws at the University of Victoria, as well as an honours bachelor of arts and a master of science from the University of Western Ontario. A resident of Vancouver, Mr. Hall is currently a hearing adjudicator with the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. His quarter century of legal experience includes service on administrative tribunals, as well as providing legal and policy advice to the public and private sectors. He is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Canadian Bar Association, and a current part-time member of the tribunal. Mr. Hall's appointment as TATC chair is a four-year term that begins November 23, 2009.

The TATC provides an independent review process for anyone who has been given notice of an administrative or enforcement action. The Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, railway safety inspectors or the Canadian Transportation Agency may take action under various federal transportation acts.
