Appointment to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 6, 2009) - The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Intergovernmental affairs, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and Minister for la Francophonie, announced today the following appointment to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB):

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Martin Lacombe to a full-time position with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Mr. Lacombe's vast experience of the transportation sector will be an asset to the Board in helping it accomplish its mandate."

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is an independent organisation created in 1990 that can have up to five members, including its Chair. The Board is reporting to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. Its mission is to promote transportation safety by investigating maritime, rail and air related accidents as well as pipeline transportation incidents. The Board makes note of safety shortcomings and makes recommendations on ways to eliminate or reduce them.

Mr. Martin Lacombe, member - Transportation Safety Board of Canada

Mr. Martin Lacombe is appointed to a full-time position at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

Mr. Lacombe has worked for over 40 years in the transportation sector both within Canada and abroad. Recently, Mr. Lacombe worked as a member of the committee revising the Railway Safety Act in order to develop a report, including recommendations, on the state of railway safety in Canada. Previously he has held several positions with CN, the Canadian Transportation Commission, the Railway Association of Canada and with Via Rail, to name but a few.
