Appointments to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 22, 2006) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced two part-time appointments to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). Ms. Helle Tosine will serve on the board as the representative for Ontario and Mr. Donald A. Hurst will serve on the board as the representative for Manitoba.

Ms. Tosine is currently Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ontario Ministry of Labour's Operations Division, where she is responsible for the program development and delivery of two key areas-occupational health and safety, and fair, harmonious workplaces. Ms. Tosine was instrumental in leading the transformation of the Occupational Health and Safety Program for the Province of Ontario.

Mr. Hurst is currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Workplace Safety and Health Division with Manitoba's Department of Labour and Immigration. In this position, he is responsible for programming and regulations in the areas of occupational health, mine safety, engineering and ergonomics, inspection services and prevention services and partnerships. Prior to this, Mr. Hurst worked as a Project Manager with the Community and Economic Development Committee of Cabinet. He has held progressively senior positions since he began his career with Manitoba's Department of Finance.
