Appointments to CMHC Board of Directors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 3, 2014) - The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development, Minister for Multiculturalism and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), today announced the appointments of Sandra Hanington, Louise Poirier-Landry and Bruce Shirreff to the CMHC Board each for a term of four years.

Minister Kenney also announced the re-appointment of Brian Johnston and André Plourde for a term of three years.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of these very experienced and talented individuals to the Board of CMHC. Each brings a wide array of skills in finance and banking that will be of tremendous benefit to the Board," said Minister Kenney. "I am also pleased that the CMHC Board will continue to have the experience and expertise of both Brian Johnston and André Plourde."

Minister Kenney also thanked outgoing Board members, Sophie Joncas, Anne E. MacDonald and James Millar for their service on the Board.

BACKGROUNDER:

Sandra Hanington:

Ms. Sandra Hanington was Executive Vice-President, BMO Financial Group from 2009-2011 where she was responsible for Product Operations supporting personal and commercial banking, wealth management and capital markets. Ms. Hanington joined BMO Financial Group in 1999 as Vice-President, Insurance and held a number of progressively senior executive roles in both Canada and the United States. She was a member of the bank's Management Committee from 2007-2011.

Ms. Hanington is a licensed professional engineer with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Toronto. She is also a graduate of the ICD Directors Education Program and is the co-founder and board chair of The Jack Project, promoting mental health and wellness for youth in Canada.

Brian Johnston:

Brian Johnston was first appointed to the Board of Directors of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in January 2008. A chartered accountant by profession, Mr. Johnston is the Chief Operating Officer of Mattamy Homes. In addition, Mr. Johnston is an active member within the home building industry: he is a former Board Director of the EnerQuality Corporation and Tarion Warranty Corporation, Past President of the Ontario Home Builders' Association, a former Director of the C.D. Howe Institute and former President of Monarch Corporation. Brian Johnston holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

André Plourde:

André G. Plourde was first appointed to the Board of Directors of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in April 2008. Mr. Plourde has been President of Groupe immobilier (Montréal, Québec) since 2001. Mr. Plourde is active within the commercial real estate industry as a member of the Urban Development Institute of Québec and the Organisme d'Autoréglementation de Courtage Immobilier du Québec (OACIQ). Mr. Plourde holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Children's Diabetic Foundation. In 2012, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.

Louise Poirier-Landry:

Ms. Louise Poirier-Landry is currently a financial security and strategic project advisor. She has previously held positions as Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at AXA Canada where she directed the Investment Department. Prior to her position at AXA, Ms. Poirier-Landry was Vice President, Product Development, Marketing, Sales and Research at Standard Life. From 1994 to 2004, she held a number of positions with the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, including member of Groupe immobilier's executive committee, Vice-President of Portfolio Management and Vice-President of Structured Financing and Product Development where she led the implementation of the Canadian commercial mortgage securitization program. Ms. Poirier-Landry was also a Board member of the public corporation N45 - First Canadian issuer of CMBS (commercial mortgage-backed securities). She holds a master's degree in economics from the Université de Montréal.

Bruce Shirreff:

Mr. Bruce Shirreff's career with Toronto Dominion Bank/TD Canada Trust has spanned close to 35 years. During his career he held a number of senior positions including: Senior Vice President, Atlantic Canada Region; Senior Vice-President, Real Estate Secured Lending; and Senior Vice President, Financial Planning and Wealth Management. He holds an Honours in Business Administration (HBA) and an MBA from the Ivy School of Business, University of Western Ontario.
