Apprion Completes Wireless Application Site Plan and Infrastructure Strategy Project at BASF's Freeport, Texas Site

BASF Freeport Partners With Leading Supplier of Industrial Wireless Application Systems to Improve Operational Processes With an Open, Strategic Wireless Infrastructure Approach

NEW ORLEANS, LA--(Marketwire - Nov 14, 2012) - ChemInnovations Conference -- Apprion, the leader of Industrial Wireless Application Systems and Services for the process manufacturing industry, announced the completion of a site-wide Wireless Application Plan at the BASF site in Freeport, Texas. Apprion's team of wireless and industrial experts conducted the on-site survey and plan, which included comprehensive RF (radio frequency) spectrum analysis, various grid simulation output with signal power levels and a technical evaluation of the site's existing infrastructure and technology. Using the survey results, Apprion's team defined a clear strategy and plan for BASF Freeport's wireless infrastructure implementation and future expansion of the facility's wireless network and applications.

In a pro-active effort to improve security and streamline operations, BASF Freeport partnered with Apprion to implement an innovative new approach for perimeter security, condition monitoring and workforce mobility. The project started with Apprion's team of wireless and industrial experts conducting an on-site survey and plan outlining the network and application projects.

"We did not want to create various individual, 'one-off' systems -- a common mistake when implementing new technology in a phased approach. So we started our wireless initiative with a thorough site analysis and a well-developed plan prior to implementation," said Chris Witte, Site Manager, of BASF Freeport. "Apprion's team has proven that extensive wireless and industrial expertise are critical for wireless projects in complex chemical environments such as ours."

In addition, Apprion's wireless infrastructure and applications -- the Apprion ION System -- is an open industrial wireless system that supports all devices, vendors and protocols. With Apprion's open network design, facilities will avoid the siloed 'one-off system' problem with different proprietary networks and applications unsuccessfully co-existing in a single environment and resulting in frequency collisions and disparate data locations.

The BASF Freeport management team partnered with Apprion Services to conduct the survey that involved ten days of measurement and data gathering to determine the placement of RF transceivers and network devices that would comprise a facility-wide wireless infrastructure. A dedicated infrastructure of Apprion IONizer 802.11 industrial Wi-Fi access points were positioned at key locations throughout the plant in anticipation of the future facility-wide wireless infrastructure and applications, including backhaul for gate readers, condition monitoring, remote operator handheld devices, communications and video applications. Performance measurements including area coverage and network connectivity were performed within each zone of the plant.

At the conclusion of the Wireless Site Plan, the Apprion Services Team provided BASF Freeport a strategic wireless report with the Wireless and RF site assessment results and an extensive report mapping out the most efficient and cost-effective path for moving forward with various wireless applications at the Freeport facility.
