Approaching Its One-Millionth Delivery, Gobble Expands Gourmet Dinner Kit Service to Entire West Coast of U.S.

Designed for People Who Don't Have Time or Desire to Cook, Service Enables Families to Make Healthy Home-Cooked Meals in Just 10 Minutes With One Pan

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 24, 2016) - Gobble, the creator of 10-minute gourmet dinner kit, announced today a major expansion of its delivery area, which now encompasses the entire west coast of the U.S., including California, Colorado, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Idaho and Arizona. The company's member growth in California alone grew by 10x in 2015, prompting the Gobble team to undertake this large expansion. All dinner kits are freshly prepared for shipping from Gobble's central kitchen facility in the Bay Area, which has been enlarged and upgraded to handle the anticipated volume.

Gobble also announced that based on its current growth rate, it expects to ship its one millionth meal in early March -- just over a year and a half after shipping its first meal.

According to Consumer Reports, prepared meals have become almost a $29 billion-a-year business, growing twice as fast as overall grocery store sales. In 2015, sales at restaurants and bars overtook spending at grocery stores for the first time ever, according to U.S. Commerce Department data. These trends are helping to drive Gobble's rapid growth.

Gobble has taken a different path from the many meal and ingredient kit delivery services:

  • Gobble is not an on-demand service, but rather a subscription service -- members receive a menu each week with options matched to their taste preferences. Members then select their meals, which are shipped in refrigerated boxes to their doors. This model helps the company manage both growth and costs, as member participation and dinner kit volume is more predictable.
  • Members have complete flexibility in meal planning and can order as many of each dinner kit as they want (many services limit customers to three dishes per week).
  • Gobble meticulously tracks and analyzes real time customer data and taste preferences in order to continuously refine and improve its menu options.
  • Gobble does not offer hot prepared or microwavable meals, but rather dinner kits with freshly prepped (not processed) ingredients that enable members to create a home-cooked meal, using one pan, in under 10 minutes.
  • All kit ingredients are pre-portioned, pre-chopped, pre-mixed and par-cooked, making cooking a meal far less intimidating for people who aren't skilled cooks or who don't have the time or desire to cook from scratch.
  • In addition to its regular weekly menu, Gobble offers special menus and kits around major holidays and events, such as its recent popular Super Bowl and Valentine's Day offerings.

"I started Gobble because I was sick of takeout, but didn't have the time or skills to cook healthy meals for myself," said Ooshma Garg, founder of Gobble. "Even ingredient kits were too time consuming -- as a busy entrepreneur, I wanted something faster and easier. Gobble has grown quickly because there are a lot of people like me, who want to serve their families a home-cooked meal but can't spend hours in the kitchen every night."

Gobble's dinner kits (including vegetarian and kid-friendly options) are designed by Executive Chef Thomas Ricci, a Michael Mina protégé and previously Chef de Cuisine at LB Steak in San Jose.

About Gobble
Founded by serial entrepreneur Ooshma Garg, Gobble does all the cooking prep work for busy professionals so they can be dinner heroes at home and serve up a home-cooked meal for their loved ones in under 10 minutes -- with little clean up and no previous cooking experience required.

The Gobble model allows busy families to cook with fresh real ingredients, control how much butter, salt, spice, etc. goes into their meal, and eat a "hot off the stove" dinner garnished with fresh herbs. This can all be done with one pan, and in less time than it takes to receive a takeout delivery. The service also allows working parents to spend less time in the kitchen, giving families more quality time together.
