AppSense Speeds Windows 10 Migrations and Endpoint File Sync With New DataNow 4.0

DataNow 4.0 Delivers File Sync and Migration for On-Premises File Storage With Complete End-to-End Encryption, Zero-Disruption Sync of Outlook PST Files, and Centralized Management

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - May 4, 2016) - AppSense, the leading provider of User Environment Management solutions for the secure endpoint, today announced the release of DataNow 4.0, a new version of the company's secure file sync and migration solution. Providing new features for end-to-end encryption, centralized configuration and the transparent sync of Microsoft Outlook PST files, DataNow 4.0 simplifies and secures endpoint sync operations with the granular control that is ideal for Windows 10 migration projects.

DataNow provides secure file sync and migration for on-premises file storage with a native user experience from Windows and mobile endpoints. It provides end users with intuitive file and data access from anywhere, ensuring data is securely retained and controlled by IT without restricting user productivity or data access.

Ideally suited for the simplification of large Windows 10 migration projects, DataNow 4.0 reduces IT exposure and workload during migration and data consolidation while improving infrastructure visibility, performance and control. Enhancing data security with end-to-end encryption for data in transit and at rest, the new version also reduces storage I/O for file operations, delivering performance that is up to four times faster than DataNow 3.6. Furthermore, streamlined database usage has dramatically reduced the SQL Server infrastructure requirements in many clustered deployments.

DataNow 4.0 simplifies file sync and migration management with an upgraded Web Admin console from which an IT administrator can manage a DataNow appliance cluster, including monitoring status, applying updates, and rebooting or shutting down appliances. The Web Admin console retains version details and patch history for any appliance in the cluster.

For end users, DataNow 4.0 simplifies the Windows desktop user experience with the ability to make synced files appear as network drive letters, eliminating training requirements and reducing helpdesk calls. A Windows endpoint sync display keeps end users informed of sync status while Windows client synchronization of Microsoft Outlook PST files provides complete endpoint sync without user disruption or downtime.

"Organizations of all sizes are looking to embrace Windows 10, but desktop endpoints are typically full of unmanaged and decentralized file data that could be lost in a hardware refresh or operating system upgrade," said Jon Rolls, Vice President of Product Management for AppSense. "Additionally, remote and travelling workers need reliable, offline access to on-premises file storage with complete desktop integration and no change in workflow or retraining. AppSense DataNow was designed with these challenges in mind. It gives users the secure access they need to critical files while easing Windows 10 migrations and data consolidation projects through deeper visibility, performance, control and efficiency -- all with zero user disruption."

Additional features in the new DataNow 4.0 include:

  • Synchronization of PST files from the endpoint based on time period and/or volume changed (measured in MB)
  • A new SMB v2 and v3 Protocol Library for secure, efficient connections to on-premises file storage
  • Support for end-to-end encryption (AES-CCM 128) when using SMB 3.0 and SMB 3.02 file shares
  • Windows client endpoint sync status display to keep end users informed of sync status including idle, syncing, paused and offline.
  • Dynamic responses to share permissions and buffer sizes/space calculations
