April 4 to 7 at Complexe Desjardins: Montreal's Ombudsman at Salon Visez Droit

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 3, 2006) - Johanne Savard, Ombudsman for the City of Montreal, announced today that her office will be an active participant in the 9th edition of the Salon Visez Droit, taking place April 4 to 7 in the Grande-Place exhibition area of Complexe Desjardins.

Members of the Montreal Ombudsman's team welcome visitors to the office's kiosk, where they can learn more about the Ombudsman's functions.

Ms. Savard, a lawyer, will also speak on the topic "L'Ombudsman de Montreal: un recours exceptionnel, accessible et gratuit (Montreal's Ombudsman: a unique, accessible and free service), on Wednesday, April 5, at 1:30 p.m.

This will be the first time that Montreal's Ombudsman will take part in the Salon Visez Droit, an annual event organized by the Bar of Montreal that brings together all organizations that work in connection with justice. Its purpose is to inform and involve the public in individual rights and obligations and to promote a better understanding of the legal system.

"Our participation in this event is perfectly in line with the spirit of our office's numerous initiatives to inform as many citizens as possible about the services we offer," Ms. Savard said.

The Montreal Ombudsman intervenes as a last recourse to ensure that the municipal rights of Montreal citizens are respected.

The Montreal Ombudsman is also the designated "guardian" of the new Montreal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities and receives and mediates citizen complaints regarding the City's commitments.
