APS Launches New Course in Obstetrical Hemorrhage

Course Targets Very High Risk Childbirth Events

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - April 22, 2014) - Advanced Practice Strategies (APS), an individualized learning platform company for doctors and nurses, announced this week the release of its latest course in Obstetrical Hemorrhage. This course is an addition to the industry-leading GNOSIS for OB (Obstetrics) program that is used by over a hundred major health systems in the US since its launch last year.

This new course includes content addressing not just post-partum hemorrhage, but also other obstetric hemorrhage emergencies, including abruptio placenta and placenta accreta. Post-partum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal death in the US and worldwide.

Studies have shown that common reasons for obstetric adverse events included delayed or missed diagnosis of hemorrhage, delayed or inadequate management, and a lack of team preparation for potential obstetric hemorrhage. "Many of these adverse outcomes are preventable or can be mitigated with appropriate training and preparation," says Sandhya Gardner, MD, APS's Medical Director of Obstetrics. "There has been an evolution towards protocol-based management of obstetrical hemorrhage and compelling evidence that such standardization of care is associated with improved outcomes."

This new course content includes the most current thinking around obstetrical hemorrhage, pioneered by national organizations like the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) and is aligned with care management standardized by ACOG and AWHONN. The CMQCC's evidenced‐based protocols and content have been endorsed by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, as part of the Partnership for Patients effort focused on decreasing Obstetrical Adverse Events.

Like all GNOSIS courses, this one includes an upfront assessment that includes both knowledge and "application of knowledge" questions. Based on a given clinician's performance on the assessment, an individualized learning plan is created that highlights the content areas that are most relevant to them.

Advanced Practice Strategies (APS) is a Boston-based education platform for clinicians. We optimize healthcare outcomes by measuring and improving clinical decision-making.

Our platform, GNOSIS, engages physicians, nurses, and other clinicians through a first-of-its-kind assessment that measures clinical knowledge and judgment and then deploys an individualized Learning Path. The Learning Path delivers prioritized content, targeting each clinician's specific needs. GNOSIS also provides an actionable dashboard that gives nurse managers and administrators insight across multiple levels of care.

Our proprietary database of individual assessments (currently 10,000+ physicians and nurses) provides a unique transparent picture of clinical risk and specific opportunities for outcomes improvement.

APS serves hospitals, health systems, and insurance carriers. We are a proven and trusted partner who works with our clients in an engaging and data-driven way that delivers meaningful impact for both providers and their patients.
