AQUASave Inc. Completes Water Demonstration Garden for Golden State Water Company

Nation's Network of "Smart Irrigation Specialists" Produces First Working Example of Landscape and Irrigation Design Strategies Reflecting Calif. AB1881 Standards

SAN DIMAS, CA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2010) -  AQUASave® Inc. and Golden State Water Company held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly completed Water Conservation Demonstration Garden located at the Golden State Water headquarters in San Dimas.

California's new landscape water conservation and runoff control legislation (AB1881) provided inspiration for the landscape and irrigation design strategies used to build this new project. This Water Conservation Demonstration Garden is the first working example reflecting the strict water conservation requirements of AB1881 which took effect statewide on Jan. 1, 2010.

Bob Sprowls, president and CEO of Golden State Water, says of the Demonstration Garden project, "We embarked on the Landscape, Irrigation Retrofit and Demonstration Garden project to lead by example in the critical area of water use efficiency. Ensuring a balance between water supply and water demand in Southern California is vital to maintaining the economic prosperity this region has come to enjoy. Becoming better stewards in controlling the use of water is a great place to start."

The Water Conservation Demonstration Garden will serve as a practical teaching tool for over 100,000 of Golden State Water customers, including municipalities, property management firms, landscape professionals and homeowners. "Having an AQUASave and Golden State Water Conservation Demonstration Garden in San Dimas can be a great interactive learning site for our residents and businesses looking to redesign their landscapes in their efforts to conserve water. In addition, the garden is a great demonstration tool for our schools interested in learning about green living practices. The City of San Dimas is hopeful the garden will become a popular destination for the region," says Lisa Monreal, environmental coordinator with the City of San Dimas.

With a 56-month return on investment (ROI), Golden State Water can expect to realize over 40 percent water savings on this project. "This garden redefines water conservation in the Southwest. We are no longer restricted to desert landscapes to save water. We now have rich colorful plant palettes that meet the state's new water conservation requirements and goals for both large and small landscapes," says Bob Baier, technical director for AQUASave Inc.

"The design, build and project management of the garden was executed exclusively by our AQUASave Network members, known as the Smart Irrigation Network," says Bob Simpson, President of AQUASave Inc. Members consist of landscape providers and professionals, including landscape contractors, landscape designers, irrigation suppliers, nurseries, project managers and water audit and management experts, servicing the water and building industry throughout the Southwestern United States.
