ARAMARK's Environmental Stewardship Initiative Wins Platinum for Second Straight Year at Ontario Waste Minimization Awards

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 7, 2011) - Raising awareness and encouraging sustainable business practices in hospitals is the focus of ARAMARK's Environmental Stewardship Initiative in Canada, which has earned a Waste Minimization Platinum Award in communications for the second straight year from the Recycling Council of Ontario.

The award, in recognition of excellence and commitment to a sustainable environment, acknowledges the success of ARAMARK's "Environmental Stewardship Initiative" in educating employees and client partners at nearly 200 healthcare facilities throughout Canada. The program shares best practices through quarterly consumer-oriented newsletters, bi-monthly electronic news updates, Leaders in Action e-mail profiles, online resources to promote environmental management and educational awareness kits for events. The materials are provided in both English and French.

"ARAMARK Canada started its Environmental Stewardship Initiative in 2006 with the goal to promote sustainability in hospitals," said Wilf Prescott, Vice President of Operations for ARAMARK Healthcare Canada. "At ARAMARK, we are committed to protecting and improving the environment by reducing our environmental footprint while delivering exceptional operational results. We offer expertise and practical solutions to our clients to help them reduce their environmental impacts, by developing and implementing programs and practices that create long-term environmental benefits."

"Ontario's businesses and institutions are moving from last to first place, taking the province to a position of environmental leadership" says Jo-Anne St. Godard, Executive Director of the Recycling Council of Ontario, which runs the Ontario Waste Minimization Award program. "ARAMARK has demonstrated that waste reduction is a core value of its operations and management practices. The organization clearly understands the environmental and economic gains that can be made by reducing waste."

Through its various communication channels, ARAMARK's Environmental Stewardship Initiative estimates it reached more than 200,000 clients, visitors, patients and residents, staff, students, executives and health care workers in 2011 in Canada.
