Architect Gregory Henriquez Explores the Making of A Citizen City With Book Release

Henriquez Challenges Architects to Engage in Partnerships that Advance Cultural Sustainability

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - June 16, 2016) - Gregory Henriquez's latest book Citizen City launching June 16, shares inside perspective on local architectural projects sparking social change.

Citizen City is the third book in a trilogy that looks at the practical and ethical concerns faced by contemporary architects. Along with Towards an Ethical Architecture and Body Heat: The Story of Woodward's Development, Citizen City extends the range of Henriquez Partners Architects' vision of a reinvigorated urban environment and the crucial role architecture plays in that process.

Citizen City presents 10 projects that have engaged the spectrum of players in the urban development process and demonstrates ways in which our cities can be re-developed and rehabilitated. In her thoroughly researched text, lawyer and social activist Marya Cotten Gould, places recent projects of Henriquez Partners Architects in the context of new progressive urban architecture, one that respects all the environments man-made and natural, that make up the fabric of our cities.

Supported by numerous illustrations, the book spans a diverse range of projects from protecting a beloved community theatre to shaking the bars off a jail to provide new community purpose.

"The aspiration of the book is to illustrate, through 10 specific projects, the latent potential within the architect's role to not merely be a tool of others, but instead be seen as an activating force in the creation of our cities," shares Gregory Henriquez.

Citizen City concludes with a challenging interview with Gregory Henriquez conducted by Robert Enright on what needs to be done to return architecture to a practice that reinforces social ethics at the same time that it builds public spaces.

Citizen City launches June 16th 2016 and will be available for purchase through Amazon, Chapters Indigo and major bookstores.
