ARCHOS 604 Takes Top Honor in Independent Portable Media Player Evaluation

Study Finds ARCHOS 604 Has Far Better Image and Picture Quality Than Apple iPod, Sony PSP and All Other Portable Media Players

DENVER, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- The new ARCHOS 604 Portable Media Player (PMP) was awarded the top honor in an independent analysis by DisplayMate Technologies of five different PMPs. Dr. Raymond Soneira, President of DisplayMate Technologies, conducted a detailed shoot-out of the players, testing and rating each with the same set of criteria, and rated the ARCHOS 604 number one overall. The Epson P-4000, came in at number two, followed by the Cowon A2, Creative Zen Vision:M and finally the Apple iPod G5 in last place. Details of the study were published in articles in ExtremeTech.com and PC Magazine.com in September, and will be in a future print edition of PC Magazine.

"During our extensive laboratory testing and visual comparison of the photo/video image and picture quality of eleven top MP3 and Portable Video Players, smart phones, and portable game consoles (including the Sony PSP Playstation Portable), the ARCHOS 604 had the best overall image and picture quality, and it was the only unit to receive an excellent rating in every category," said Soneira.

The DisplayMate Technologies' evaluation states that the ARCHOS 604 was the only player to receive a rating of "excellent" in picture contrast, and had the largest screen and lowest screen reflectance rating, which all translate into a superior viewing experience for the user. When discussing the players' performance under bright light, "The ARCHOS 604 was the clear winner," according to the report. In a separate test on TV output, the 604 once again beat the competition, finding that "...the DVR Station for the ARCHOS 604 provides the highest quality RGB and component video outputs in addition to S-Video."

"Screen size and quality are the two most important factors for consumers looking for portable media players, and our focus in this area is confirmed by the DisplayMate Technologies evaluation," said ARCHOS, Inc. Chief Operating Officer Larry Smith. "ARCHOS is the consistent leader in integrating high quality features into user friendly products, and we're thrilled with the results of another independent evaluation confirming ARCHOS' innovation."

The ARCHOS 604 is perfectly designed for watching video on the go, with a 4.5-inch large-screen display and 30GB of capacity. The 604 features the most brilliant, award-winning screen in the industry, the new Generation 4 simple navigation system, intuitive button layout, can record content from any home entertainment source using the optional DVR Station. The ARCHOS 604 holds up to 130 hours of TV programming, 85 movies, 15,000 songs, or 300,000 photos (1) -- all in a pocket-friendly size. The DVR Station accessory allows the 604 to record TV in DVD quality (2) and other accessories allow direct photo transfers from digital cameras or the ability to turn the 604 into a personal camcorder.
