Arcturus Veritas® Microgenomics Platform Selected for New NCI Funded Cancer Program in Collaboration With Children's Memorial Research Center

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 14, 2005 -- The Division of Cancer Biology, NCI, announces the establishment of a program designed to train established and new NCI-funded investigators (or nominated post-doctoral fellows in their laboratories) in establishing, maintaining, manipulating and characterizing a variety of organotypic and orthotopic models of human cancer. The hands-on training program will be conducted in six separate research laboratories, proficient in one of six models.

Trainees will be accepted to one of the laboratories, based on the models relevant to their research interests. Training will involve exposure to all aspects of establishing and working with the chosen model. It is hoped that disseminating expertise in such technically challenging models will increase the number of investigators whose research is focused on tumor-host interactions.

Model Location
Breast Cancer Berkeley, CA
Breast Cancer Boston, MA
Several Human Cancers Houston, TX
Prostate Cancer Nashville, TN
Melanoma, Prostate Chicago, IL
Skin, Melanoma Philadelphia, PA
The laboratory of Dr. Mary Hendrix, at Children's Memorial Research Center in Chicago, IL, will offer the Arcturus Veritas Microdissection System, using laser capture microdissection (LCM) and laser cutting as part of the technology training in the performance of organotypic models for cancer investigation.

Application receipt deadline is April 19, 2005. For more information, please visit the NCI: http://www.nci.nih.gov.

About Arcturus Bioscience:

Arcturus is the industry leader in Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) and reagent systems for microgenomics, the molecular analysis of microscopic tissue samples, with systems installed in leading cancer centers, research institutions and clinical research laboratories worldwide. These tools enable researchers to perform rapid cell-based analysis of disease progression utilizing the smallest and purest samples currently available. The company has developed this unique technology platform for genetic analysis of biopsy samples and has applied its platform to discover cell-specific gene signatures associated with human diseases such as cancer. These novel gene signatures enable clinical laboratories to develop diagnostic applications for tumor identification and breast cancer prognosis. Arcturus is a private company headquartered in Mountain View, California. http://www.arctur.com
