Are You Ready for the Single Mom Super-Hero?

To-Do List: Pick Up Kids, Make Dinner, Kick Butt

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - Keith Kornell has a few things on his mind:

  • The decline of the educational system
  • Our economy in crisis
  • The negative effect of political correctness
  • The need for heroes

So, he's chosen a unique spokesperson to help him vent about the issues. She is a superwoman nicknamed B.I.B. (she wears black all the time, and is not very pleasant to deal with otherwise, so you can figure out what the initials mean), and her lot in life is to be a single mom with super powers. She's the lead character in Kornell's new novel, "Superborn" (www.superborn.net), a satirical examination of modern life with an unmistakable pop culture twist.

"In every era, we hear that times are tough," Kornell said. "We heard it when we were kids, about how inflation was high and the economy was tight, and today, we regard that period as the good old days. So, when I thought about trying to write about the challenges of this era, I needed new eyes, and a backdrop that would skew the perspective enough that people could see today's problems from a new perspective."

Suddenly, life isn't that simple. As if it ever was.

"And that's the point," Kornell said. "Powers or not, life isn't simple, and the B.I.B.'s inner battle between her temptations and her focus, against the backdrop of a world that is equal parts ridiculous and sublime, really challenges her notion of what she really wants out of life. And in a way, I think, it puts into perspective what we all have to put up with these days with the economy, idiot politicians, screaming TV pundits, a failing education system and a media that caters to the lowest common denominator -- only her world has a few more cathartic moments, because, after all, she's literally a Super-Mom."
