Arizona Criminal Defense Attorney Alex Lane Warns People to Drink Responsibly During Holiday Season

Arizona DUI Defense Lawyer Alex Lane, Web Site URL http://www.alexlanelaw.com/, Warns Public to Drink Responsibly During Holidays Given Increased Enforcement

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Dec 19, 2013) - Alex Lane has been serving clients as an Arizona criminal defense attorney for years, and he has helped people who stood accused of many different crimes that have included drug charges, weapons charges, theft charges and DUI across Arizona. Mr. Lane would like to make sure to warn the public to drink responsibly during the holiday season considering the fact that the law enforcement community has announced its efforts to step up enforcement of DUI laws across the state.

The law enforcement community announced its annual effort in Phoenix on December 3, and a link to a story describing that announcement can be found here. During the announcement of this stepped-up effort to enforce DUI laws, several different statistics were provided by members of different law enforcement and administrative agencies, including the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Those statistics revealed an increase in traffic stops and in DUI arrests in recent years.

Specifically, there were more than 19,000 DUI arrests made in Arizona in 2010, but that number jumped to more than 31,000 in 2011. In addition, the number of traffic stops in the state more than tripled between 2010 and 2011, moving from just over 228,000 in 2010 to more than 700,000 the following year. So far in 2013, law enforcement personnel have executed more than 637,000 traffic stops in Arizona that have led to more than 22,000 arrests on suspicion of DUI or related charges.

Alex Lane would like to echo the recommendations made by officials when they announced their holiday DUI enforcement efforts. People who are out for the evening need to take steps to avoid drinking and driving. Examples of steps that could be taken include designating a sober driver, calling for a taxi or hiring a driving service to provide transportation. People who are unable to take any of these steps should consider spending the night where they are before attempting to operate a vehicle.

"The DUI laws in Arizona are such that people who are convicted of these crimes can face stiff penalties," Lane stated. "The holiday season is a time when more people tend to celebrate and imbibe, and the law enforcement community is aware of this. People should do whatever it takes to avoid drinking and driving, and those who are arrested on suspicion of this crime should seek immediate legal assistance," Lane added.
