Arkados Adds 802.15.3b Wireless Multimedia MAC to Its Digital Home Portfolio of Products

IP Licensing Complements Award-Winning HomePlug Powerline Solutions From Arkados

PISCATAWAY, NJ--(Marketwire - March 20, 2008) - Arkados (OTCBB: AKDS) expands its portfolio of connected home solutions with the introduction of a licensable 802.15.3b MAC implementation, available today. This adds to Arkados' already extensive offerings that use HomePlug® Powerline technology solutions for connected consumer electronic products, such as digital picture frames, IPTV components, surveillance systems, gaming, smart-grid energy management, and whole-house audio systems that stream music from an iPod®, the internet, a PC, or an analog stereo system to every room in the house. All Arkados solutions support easy connectivity between a variety of products, without adding new wires.

The Arkados 802.15.3b MAC implementation is licensable to any developer that is interested in jumpstarting their development process, and bringing digital home multimedia products to market more quickly. Available now, the license includes a well-documented implementation of the IEEE 802.15.3b MAC, the design of a multimedia demonstration platform, and a number of sophisticated development and testing tools designed to aid and accelerate the implementation and porting processes -- potentially eliminating dozens of person-years of development time.

"Offering this MAC license is consistent with our company's goals to be a solution provider for in-home multimedia content distribution, and it complements our existing HomePlug solutions," said Oleg Logvinov, CEO and president of Arkados. "Arkados designed our 802.15.3b MAC to be very flexible, with clear separation of time-critical and non-time-critical functions, and is implemented in commonly used languages. Developers can use it with many different wired and wireless PHYs, including multi-Gbps 60GHz RF (803.15.3c), potentially allowing networking under one protocol with a single controller."
