Arkansas Venture Center to Kick-Off 2015 BuildIT Speaker Series With Charles D. Morgan, Author, Entrepreneur and Former Chairman & CEO of Acxiom Corporation

Book Signing Set to Follow Speaking Engagement

LITTLE ROCK, AR--(Marketwired - February 02, 2015) - The Arkansas Venture Center announced today it plans to launch its 2015 BuildIT Speaker Series on March 3rd with an evening featuring Charles D. Morgan. Author, technology visionary, investor and long-time motor sports enthusiast, Morgan served as CEO and Chairman of Acxiom Corporation from 1971 until 2007. Morgan will share select stories from his new memoir "Matters of Life and Data" due out this spring in hard cover. "This event is representative of the caliber of content we will showcase in the BuildIT series this year," said Lee Watson, President of the Venture Center. "If there were ever a success story to inspire entrepreneurs in our area, it is Charles' story."

The new memoir recounts and celebrates Morgan's journey from a modest upbringing in a small town on the Arkansas River to his role as one of America's biggest data visionaries of all time. During his 36-year tenure, Morgan grew a small data processing firm of 25 employees into a global powerhouse by becoming one of the largest aggregators of data and consumer information in the world. Other topics of the evening include insights from Morgan's on-going experiences as a serial entrepreneur today -- founding, leading and serving his many new ventures including PrivacyStar, a technology solution to support consumer privacy in mobile, and Querencia, a luxury golf and residential community in Los Cabos consistently named a top course in Mexico by GolfDigest magazine.

Arkansas Business Publishing Group (ABPG) will underwrite the Venture Center's BuildIT series held bi-monthly at the Venture Center's new location at 107 E. Markham St. in Little Rock. A book signing session will follow an informal discussion moderated by ABPG President, Mitch Bettis. Guests can register at: for $10. There is no cost to Venture Center members. About the Author

Equipped with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas (1963), Morgan joined the giant IBM for a short stint before leaving to explore a startup career at a small data processing company in Conway, Arkansas. Criticized for leaving IBM for what some believed would be a 'whimsical mistake,' Morgan transformed the small data processing company into a publicly held, $1.4 billion corporation with 6,000 employees and offices throughout the world. Today, Acxiom Corporation still provides windows into 'Big Data' for many of the world's largest companies. Under Morgan's leadership, Acxiom Corporation was named five times to Fortune magazine's list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For in America." Among other pursuits, Morgan enjoyed a 20 plus year career in Auto Racing while serving a key Board role at the nationally-recognized liberal arts college in his home town.
