ArmorLine Corporation Announces Acquisition of Transparent and Optical Spinel Technology From Technology Assessment and Transfer, Inc.

CHARLOTTE, NC and ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - February 17, 2009) - ArmorLine Corporation and Technology Assessment and Transfer, Inc. today announced that the companies have signed an agreement under which ArmorLine has acquired the exclusive world-wide right to manufacture Spinel Transparent Products using technology developed by Technology Assessment and Transfer.

Spinel is the emerging transparent ceramic armor solution for tactical and combat vehicles against escalating world-wide threats. Technology Assessment and Transfer (TA&T), based In Annapolis, is the industry leader in the research and development of magnesium aluminate (Spinel) transparent armor and optical system components for a wide variety of end use applications. Exceptional wide-band transparency (UV through the mid IR), high hardness, dielectric, and ballistic properties make Spinel an attractive choice for electro-optical sensors, laser-RF communications, and vehicular and aircraft ballistic protection.

This acquisition will diversify ArmorLine's product portfolio given Spinel's improved ballistic and rock-strike performance and resistance to sand abrasion. Spinel transparent armor also offers 50-60% weight savings and reduced thickness over traditional ballistic glass. Armor weight and thickness reductions are critical for performance of armored vehicles, fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Commercial markets for transparent Spinel include aircraft, train, bar code scanners, watch crystals, cell phone and PDA devices due to its excellent abrasion resistance and light transmission properties.

Thomas Campbell, ArmorLine's Vice President for Business Development, stated, "Spinel is the next generation of optical ceramics and transparent protective armor. We are excited to be the first to scale-up and commercialize transparent polycrystalline Spinel ceramics." TA&T President, Dr. Larry Fehrenbacher, added, "TA&T is committed to continuing development efforts that result in larger size flat and curved Spinel armor as well as broad band electro-optical windows and domes." ArmorLine looks forward to working with TA&T's management team in this exciting transition to full scale production.

An exclusive but widely attended Spinel Technology Debut will be hosted by ArmorLine on March 3, 2009 in Washington, DC.
